Visitors to the cave are greeted by rows of statues, or tau-tau, which are people or wood carvings. Traditionally, Toraja, before the corpse is made of a statue, the bereaved family must slaughter as many as 24 buffaloes.


Inside the cave are several coffins which are attached to the walls using wood as a barrier. The higher the degree of people who die in the community, the higher the layout of their erong on the cave wall. People in North Toraja believe that the higher the location of the chest, the closer the spirit of the corpse travels to the realm of nirvana. Londa is also known as a hanging grave and is one of the largest family graves in the area.
